Amanda Perlyn Jackson has written and illustrated an uplifting free e-book which inspires children to use their imagination during these challenging times to compensate for imposed restrictions. The two children in the story aren’t able to travel or visit places such as galleries and museums, so instead they embark on an exciting ‘world tour’ using the power of imaginative play. On Monday they’re surfing in Rio (the illustrations cleverly meld a tropical beach vista with a domestic kitchen scene). On Thursday they’re in Antartica with the penguins (the freezer is next to an igloo) and by Sunday they’ve circumvented the world, returning to their hometown of Chicago, with many adventures on the way. The closing page encourages children to be grateful and kind, prompting them to ‘say a prayer for the world and give it a virtual hug’.
