The book depicts an excited little boy and his mother setting out on a bus journey to the boy’s first sleepover. The girl he is staying with shows him her home and introduces him to her pet fish, and they eat a healthy meal together. The boy mistakes an ornament for a toy and the mother suggests that she finds him something else to play with. The friends visit the park, and their guest has a bath (the little girl is shown splashing him from the side of the bath). The boy looks anxious at bedtime as the room is very dark, so the light is switched on. The friends read stories together before falling asleep in their bunkbeds. The next day the boy goes home, but his mother assures him they will come again soon. The boy asks if they can get a pet.

Sleepover (First Time)
A good choice of book to set a child's expectations of what happens at a sleepover. The simple conversational text and lively illustrations may encourage them to talk about the experience and ask questions.
