“I feel unsure and a bit scared when I see people in these masks. Dad says they are not forever, they are just for now.”
The Australian Children’s Foundation has produced this simple yet useful little free story to support very young children who may be unsettled by people wearing face coverings or masks. Through simple line drawings and minimal text, it explores lots of ways that people cover their faces (swimming goggles, face paint, sunglasses, peekaboo games, sun hats and so on), concluding with a drawing of a mask-wearing father coming in from grocery shopping, to ‘peek a boo’ with his child by removing his mask and giving them a big hug. The book includes some simple prompts to encourage children to talk about their feelings about mask-wearing.
