Humber’s Granny looks after him while his Mum goes away. She tells Humber that when she returns she will have a lovely surprise for him. Humber misses his mum and his usual home routine. The next day, Mum returns, carrying a tiny baby called Plum – Humber’s surprise! Humber isn’t sure about her at first and hopes she might not stay. His Mum always seems busy with the new baby, and she gets a lot of attention. Humber decides to send Plum back to where she came from, and puts her in a cardboard box. She looks so tiny in the box he decides to play with her for a while before she goes, and he begins to think she isn’t so bad to have around after all. Mum promises to spend some more time with her ‘big grown-up Hum’ and gently reassures him that she missed him and still loves him.
