This book is part of a collection of stories about Maisy, a young mouse. Lucy Cousin’s bold and colourful illustrations are almost universally appealing to young children. One day Maisy bounces too high on her trampoline and falls and hurts her leg. Her friend Charley (who is a crocodile) takes her to hospital. Doctor Duck checks Maisy and she has an X-ray, which shows she has broken her leg. The doctor puts a plaster cast on her leg, and tells her she has to stay overnight. Nurse Comfort brings her to the children’s ward and raises her leg with a special lift. Maisy misses home and her friends, but soon makes friends with Dotty Donkey in the bed opposite and they swap toys. The next day, Maisy’s friends come to visit with balloons and cookies, which they share with Dotty. Tallulah the bird signs Maisy’s plaster cast. Doctor Duck tells Maisy she can go home, and she leaves on her new crutches, after saying goodbye and get well soon to her new friend Dotty.
