Originally published in 1956, Harry the dog will still charm children today with his cheeky antics. Harry disliked having a bath so much that one day he buried the scrubbing brush and ran away from home. He spent the day seeking out the dirtiest places to play (railways, street works, building sites and coal chutes) and transformed himself from a white dog with black spots into a black dog with white spots. Feeling tired and hungry and missing his loving owners, he set off for home, but he was so filthy that that his family did not recognise him. He unearthed the hidden scrubbing brush and ran up the stairs to the bathtub, where he sat up and begged to be washed. His owners obliged and soon realised that the strange dog was their Harry! Harry was so pleased to be home with the people he loved. He curled up on his bed and dreamed of all the fun he had had that day (with the scrubbing brush hidden carefully under his pillow!)
