Mrs Judd and her two children Jake and Jessie make a visit to the dentist. After playing in the busy waiting room, Jake and Jessie go into the dentist’s surgery for their check-up. Jessie sits in the special chair and has her teeth examined (the dental instruments and mask are mentioned in the story). When it is Jake’s turn, the dentist finds a small hole in one of his teeth and decides to do a filling. Gel is rubbed into his gums and the dentist makes his tooth numb (the illustration show Jake having an injection). The filling process is explained thoroughly and there is a simple diagram of the filled tooth. The dentist shows them how to look after their teeth properly by eating less sweets and sugary drinks and more fruit, vegetables and dairy products. He shows them a picture of healthy and unhealthy teeth and gums. The dental nurse shows them how to brush their teeth properly (twice a day) and they make an appointment to come back in six months.
